Moses' mother.
What a woman.
What did she do to raise three courageous, fearless, God-fearing children?
They all grew up and played their role to defend the defenseless.
It was by her own fearless FAITH (Hebrews 11:23-27) she modelled a life for her children worthy of a Christ follower. She was only mentioned in the Bible during the first years of her children's lives, the most crucial years of their lives. Those years made them who they would grow up to be. She must've been quite the mama in those first years.
"We must teach the fear of God, which is the beginning of wisdom and the basis for a well-adjusted life." (VanderVelde) Jochebed is an example of a mom who teaches her children through prayer and seeking God's guidance. She relied on Him ALL the time, everyday. She faced some very difficult trials, including, having to hide her son from the Egyptian soldiers for three months in order to protect him then sending him down the river in hopes of saving his life. In a time when Egyptians were killing babies to push their own agenda, Jochebed stay true to God only.
Then her faith had to continue to be steadfast over the years.
Her son was raised by the pagan Egyptians and she had to trust God would protect him, and grow him into the man of God he was meant to be. What faith she had. I am challenged by her faith. My faith grows pale in comparison. To embrace motherhood in those first crucial years, golly, I am just inspired by her.
What REALLY challenges me about her faith is how she reacted and responded under difficult situations. She had to give her little baby boy up in hopes that someone (Egyptians) would raise him and she continued to pray and continued to praise God in ALL circumstances. How do I react in tough times?
Or even to the people I love? How do YOU react? Are we reacting and responding in a Godly, loving manner in all circumstances?
This world has slowly taken a turn against God. We are no longer a country under God. We are a nation of "many religions" and it's accepted. There is no longer ultimate, everlasting truth. My point is how are WE responding in the face of difficulty in our modern day "Egypt"? Are WE staying true to God only? Are we defending truth?
Are we teaching our children what is of lasting and true value?
Jochebed sure stood firm in her faith in the face of the Egyptians.
