Dinah.

Dinah was the youngest daughter of 11 brothers, so you can imagine how spoiled she was with all those brothers and a dad who adored his only baby girl.

Her mother was Leah, spiritually sensitive and faithful woman.
Her father was Jacob, wealthy and devout man.

Dinah was taught in her early years to pray and give God praise for every blessing. She was innocent and carefree, enjoying her growing up years. She was given everything and given all the loved and attention a little girl could dream.

Eventually she outgrew her innocence and wanted to explore the world.

Her mother made the mistake of not teaching Dinah the dangers of the world. She kept her protected and hidden. Once Dinah left to explore, she found herself right in the center of temptation and she was smitten by a young man named Schechem, who was very charming and alluring. He took her and lay with her, defiling her innocence and dishonoring her father's name. This made her brothers burn with anger.

And again, this story sadly turns for the worst and her brothers seek revenge, killing every man of Schechem's village, pillaging all the towns belongings.

Ok so they shouldn't have let their anger take control, but in their defense, they were defending their baby sister. And in Dinah's defense, she didn't know any better. Schechem should not have take advantage of her innocence but all I keep seeing in this story is how Leah, her mother, fell short in teaching her daughter.

My prayer is that I can learn from her mistake and be a mom who embraces my responsibility to teach my children, to correct them, to insist on their obedience, to show them what is of true worth in this world and to pray over them.

What are you seeing in this story?
Story is found in Genesis 34
