Good 'ol fashioned tea time.
What happened to the "good 'ol days" I so often hear about? When women would sit on their porch and the neighbor ladies would stop over for afternoon tea. Somewhere between my Grandma Mary sitting on the porch every afternoon and now modern day too busy to sit, we lost the quality time, the sweet pot of tea and precious moments with friends.
Not only is this just sad.
It's unbiblical.
In the New Testament, God sent his son Jesus, born of the virgin Mary, to be God in the flesh, to model the way we are to live. Jesus modeled hospitality. Jesus went to the homes of sinners, he went out of his way to spend time with the sick and the poor and he didn't just "stop by", he spent HOURS sitting on the porch. He took the time to CARE, to reach out, and to build friendships. And the people eagerly welcomed him in.
Are we eager to let people into our home?
Ask yourself, would I welcome a homeless person into my home? Would I eagerly welcome in someone who needs food or fresh clothes to wear?
How did we Americans become too busy to practice hospitality?
I hate that word "busy". Are you that important that you're too busy for people?
Take time to sit, to brew a sweet pot of tea, and enjoy what truly matters.
People truly matter.
Friendships.
