The question today "Is it OK to have different opinions?"
For some reason, this topic has come up multiple times lately so I'd like to hear your feedback.
All HOT TOPICS, in vitro, abortion, gay marriage, tattoos, all secondary issues that can be discussed at a later time. The topic today is if it's OK to have differing opinions on a particular issue.
So.... let's say an issue is brought up and the hot back and forth debate ensues. In an ideal world, both parties are open to hearing the other's side and both are open to possibly being wrong, but again that's an ideal world. What usually happens is two views are presented and one or both gets offended and starts defending or "forcing" their view. So now we have come to live in a "COEXIST LIVE IN PEACE" kind of world.
"You have your opinion, I have my opinion, let's go on our merry way and live in peace" mentality.
Bottom line....it's God's job to change our view, it's our job to line our view up with God.
So is it OK to have differing views and live in peace?
Let's stop trying to force our view on others and simply LEARN from each other. Your view might not line up with God's or my view might not line up with God's. I personally want to be corrected if my view does not line up with scripture.
I completely DISAGREE that it's simply OK to have differing views. Someone is wrong and someone in the conversation is not lined up with scripture. We should be communicating with each other and pointing out each others blindspots. Let's use tattoos as an EXAMPLE to make my point more clear. Let's say Sally believes in "tattoos scribble all over the beautiful person God created you to be," but Steven believes in "tattoos are a self-expression of art". If Sally and Steven said let's just smile and say it's OK to have differing views and go on our peaceful merry way then when does Sally stand up and say "NO enough is enough, this is what I believe is God's view on this particular issue and I stand firm in that. And Steven I'll pray that God reveals His truth on this issue to you." Then leave it at that. Ideally, Steven would want to hear Sally out because he's open to potentially being wrong, but if not, then at least Sally disagrees with this "coexist let's live in peace" mentality and she has a voice.
If we call ourselves Christ followers then we are to live lined up with scripture and with God's views. Scripture doesn't paint low, easy standards to live by, in fact, quite the opposite. We are to pursue holy lives and live according to what scripture tells us. And if we're going to call ourselves Christians then we have to be willing to voice that Biblical view and stand firm in it, even if people make fun of us or completely disagree.
Just because the world's views are changing doesn't mean we have to change and it does NOT mean we have to fall limp and say it's OK to have different views. Now is the time to STAND FIRM and speak up for Godly things. I don't care if the world is changing and is now voting on gay marriage, I'm not going to change my ways according to how the world views and I'm NOT going to say it's OK to have different opinions.
Feel free to message me! I "love" hate mail... or a healthy debate :)
