Carol was a woman sitting on the side of the road with a metal cart containing her whole life's belongings. She pushed this cart everywhere she went while carrying a sign that read "raising funds for food" and sitting on the same spot everyday.
We were driving to a church service on Sunday morning after we had served at the Convoy of Hope outreach the day before in Fargo, ND. I saw Carol on the side of the road and something hit me in the face. I'd seen hundreds of homeless people in my life, passed by thousands, but Carol stuck out to me. As we drove, my heart rate increased and palms got sweaty. As we passed the Minnesota state line, I knew I had to turn around.
I went back and talked to Carol for a few minutes and found out she can't eat regular food or swallow properly. So I went back to church to talk to our team. We decided to buy food she could eat and a few other things to bless her with. We went back to North Dakota (just a few miles) and Carol wasn't there.
Was she an angel on the side of the road sitting there to see if SOMEONE would stop?
Later we found out another team from Convoy of Hope stopped for her as well.
We left the back of goodies at her spot and prayed she would find it the next day.
Would you stop for Carol?
God asks us to be His hands and feet, and serve the least of these. He commands us to GO and to serve. He COMMANDS us. What we do for the least of these, we are doing for the Lord.
At Convoy of Hope, a group of us served in the Kid Zone, a group in the Photography and a group in the Foot Washing (with Samaritans Shoes Ministry). I had the honor of washing feet of people who needed shoes, giving them a clean pair of socks and a new pair of shoes. I felt the love of Jesus pouring out of me as I prayed with people and heard a snipit of their story.
That is what we are called to do, humble ourselves and wash the feet of Jesus.
Simple as that.
We had a true God encounter that weekend and experienced what the Church body looks like when we are all working together and doing our part.
Over 700 volunteers.
Over 1500 guests served.
Over 30 accepted Christ into their lives.
500 shoes given away.
Tons of free groceries, free haircuts, free photos.
Hundreds prayed for.
Many lives changed forever.
One God we serve.
One of our students stepping out to serve and wash feet.
